Vaping Teen Undergoes Double Lung Transplant

Doctors who operate on teenagers with vape-related illnesses are mortified with the extent of permanent lung damage the popular nicotine delivery system is causing

Wednesday, November 13, 2019 - A shocking new report details the extent of the lung damage that vaping may be causing to millions of teenagers and others in the United States and throughout the world. A 16-year old teen on the brink of death had received a double lung transplant the other day as doctors at Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital were unable to repair the damage done by vaping to the critical cells of the patient's lungs. According to Yahoo.com Lifestyle "Doctors revealed that they have performed the first double lung transplant on a teenage patient with a vaping-related illness - a major development in the growing EVALI (e-cigarette or vaping product use associated lung injury) crisis." The teen had been received into the hospital's intensive care unit and placed on life support. JUUL Vape lawsuit attorneys are helping American families file claims against the maker of JUUL Vape pens, Juul Inc. for damages and offer a free consultation.

The article highlights the exasperation doctors are expressing over the extent of lung damage that vaping is causing and that they have never seen anything like it in their careers. One surgeon performing the double lung transplant described the situation by telling reporters at Yahoo Lifestyles "The appearance of the lungs was worse than expected. What I saw in his lungs was something I've never seen before - and I've been doing lung transplants for 20 years. There was an enormous amount of inflammation... the lung was so scared that we had to deliver it out of the chest. This is an evil I haven't faced before."

In a related development, scientists may have identified one of the causes of the epidemic of vape-related illnesses that is sweeping the nation. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has said that "experts identified Vitamin E acetate, a honey-like substance used to thicken vaping products, as one of the toxins fueling the crisis." according to Yahoo. Parents of teenagers should watch them carefully for any sign of vape-related lung damage or illness which could lead to total lung failure such as "pneumonia-like symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, fever, and diarrhea, can result in a buildup of fluid known as "wet lung."

Currently, over 2000 people have become ill and 39 people have died from lung injuries linked to e-cigarettes. Juul Inc. the leading manufacturer and marketers of e-cigarettes and vape flavor cartridges is accused of targeting underage teenagers with a high-tech campaign of online advertising that escaped the scope of awareness of government regulators until vape illnesses and deaths started to surface. Vape illnesses and the number of states reporting them have been steadily rising since the first reported illness earlier in the year. Vaping has been banned in several states and the company has pulled all of their flavored vaping cartridges from store shelves. The Trump administration is considering a nationwide ban on flavored vape cartridges. Millions of young adults that had never smoked before have started vaping and are now addicted to nicotine. A single vape cartridge contains as much nicotine as an entire pack of smoked cigarettes. Lung scarring is also known as "popcorn lung" where the superheated steam produced in a microwave causes burning in the lungs resulting in the formation of scar tissue. The same is happening to teenagers who vape.
