A Coalition of State Attorney Generals Join Others Investigating Juul Advertising to Minors

Juul's Co-Founder has also quit under the weight of government investigations

Friday, March 13, 2020 - Of all of the angles from which a writer may approach the topic of vaping, one stands out from all of the rest and that is the way Juul Inc. deliberately increased the amount of nicotine an average dosage or "drag" on a vape pen delivered while simultaneously targeting minors with using internet advertising. Juul added a chemical to their vape cartridges that allowed users to take a longer, more satisfying, and more addictive dosage of nicotine and did not mention the nicotine content in advertisements nor on their packaging. Scientists estimate that one vape cartridge delivers the equivalent amount of nicotine as smoking an entire pack of potent Marlboro cigarettes. School districts and municipal governments throughout the United States are outraged that millions of middle and high school student have been misled into thinking that vaping was safe and have taken up the habit of vaping and in the process become hopelessly addicted to nicotine, a permanent and life-long addiction that will take a significant life-altering physical and psychological effort to overcome.

Lawsuits have been filed by school districts that allege that Juul has directly targeted their students with phony in-school educational programs which turned out to effectively be Juul Vape infomercials and have effectively undone decades of anti-tobacco education and several state attorney generals have filed Juul lawsuits claiming that Juul broke the law when they targeted minors with their nicotine-product advertising. The latest development along these lines is that a coalition of states has formed to file lawsuits against Juul for the harm they may have caused to the health of the nation's young adults with their chemically-addictive product and fraudulent advertising. Fox News reports: "U.S. officials on Tuesday said a coalition of 39 states will investigate whether the e-cigarette giant Juul Labs deliberately marketed to youths with misleading claims about the nicotine content of its vaping products. Attorneys general from Connecticut, Florida, Nevada, Oregon, and Texas said they will lead the multi-state investigation into San Francisco-based Juul, which also is facing lawsuits by teenagers and others who say they became addicted to the company's vaping products."

The multi-state effort to hold Juul accountable for the public health crisis they have created mirrors the investigations that are currently underway by the US Food and Drug Association and the United States Congress to clarify whether Juul targeted minors with their advertising as it is alleged. An avalanche of individual lawsuits are also being filed on behalf of nicotine-addicted teenagers and minors, and Juul vape lawsuit lawyers are offering free, no-obligation consultations to those that may wish to file a claim against the company.

The public's outcry and legal challenges facing Juul have now forced the company's co-founder James Monsees to quit the e-cigarette manufacturer and seller to "spend more time with family" according to Bloomberg. Monsees co-founded the company with Adam Bowen in 2015 and since then has seen their sales skyrocket to over one billion dollars per year due largely by their adding a chemical that increases the dosage of nicotine and tricking an entirely new generation to take up vaping as a safe, cool, high-tech, thing to do.
