Lung Experts Say Vaping Harms the Lungs, Heart, and Brain

Juul vaping illnesses resemble those of lung cancer from cigarette smoking and doctors and scientists are alarmed at what they may find next

Thursday, February 13, 2020 - Doctors treating Teenagers that have been admitted to hospital emergency rooms with lung pain and difficulty breathing due to vaping have told reporters that their patient's young lungs look more like those of an 80-year old lifetime cigarette smoker. Colorado lung expert Dr. Robin Deterding fearing the unknown effects of vaping told Colorado's CPR.com that "You're inhaling a chemistry experiment and that's bad for your lungs." Dr. Deterding is also sounding the alarm that breathing second-hand vapor can be as bad for you like second-hand cigarette smoke and "can stimulate asthma and cause exacerbation of asthma problems," Deterding told CPR. Thousands of teenagers, some as young as 12 years old have been admitted to hospitals around the country and around 100 have died from acute vaping injuries thought to be related to breathing THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. Teenage vape users simply exchange the manufacturers vaping cartridge or "e-juice" with legally available THC. Vaping THC is odorless and allows high school students to conceal using the device and get high in school, at home or at the mall. Vape pens look like portable computer hard drives and are easily hidden in plain sight. More deadly than substituting THC, however, is the long-term effects both physical and psychological damage that lifetime nicotine addiction will pose. Millions of teenagers now admit to being hooked on vaping and there is no easy cure. Vaping delivers 2-10 times the dosages of nicotine per puff than even the strongest Marlboro cigarettes.

CPR addresses several of the most significant problems that vaping can cause. The first is that teenagers continue to believe that vapor is harmless water vapor, not a complex and addictive chemical cocktail that resembles the chemicals in cigarette smoking. CPR cites that vapor, "actually contain high concentrations of nicotine as well as particles linked to lung disease and cancer. The doctors say vaping impacts young people in at least three key areas: the lungs, the heart, and the brain." JUUL Vape pen lawsuits handled by top national attorneys offer a free no obligation consultation to families and individuals nationwide.

Vaping affects the lungs because heated vapor causes the delicate and tiny tissues of the lungs, the alveoli, to become irritated, scarred and increasingly inelastic over time making breathing more and more difficult. This is called "popcorn lung" a condition that also occurs when a person inhales superheated microwave popcorn vapor. While not superheated like a microwave, e-cigarette vapor is hot and causes irritation damage as it is used regularly and over the courses of months and years. The sooner a person stops vaping the sooner they will stop the damage to their lungs.

Scientists are now studying e-cigarette vapor's effect on the heart and arteries and suspect that vaping increases blood pressure that could cause heart damage at the very least. Last and certainly not least, teenagers are becoming psychologically dependant on nicotine, a permanent condition and it is feared that without vaping, an entirely new generation of cigarette smokers have been created. Maybe that was Juul's partner Phillip Morris's intention all along.
