New Study Finds That Teen Vape Users Are Unaware Of Juul's Nicotine Content

Teenagers are using vape e-cigarettes because they are easier to hide and use than other e-cigarette brands

Tuesday, March 17, 2020 - The March 2020 issue of the Journal of Adolescent Health (JAH) confirms what most already know or strongly suspected and that is one, there is an epidemic of nicotine addiction affecting America's youth and two, that few of the millions of now-nicotine-addicted adolescents had any idea of what was in an e-cigarettes better known as a vape pen. Juul was a failing e-cigarette company just a few years ago until their scientists figured out how to add certain nicotine salt to the vape pen that allowed users to take a drag strong enough to delivers a satisfying, and highly addictive, dose of nicotine. Juul sold these vape pens and an assortment of flavor cartridges to America's youth via social media websites like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram and hired social media personalities with tens of millions of subscribers to endorse the vape pen as cool, hip, and above all, safe to use. Juul Vape pen dangers have been linked to significant health problems and side effects.

Juul is earning billions of dollars per year as a result of sophisticated online marketing selling their vape pens that resemble a computer's portable disk drive and can be concealed up a student's sleeve and "ripped on" in class literally when the teacher's back is turned. Thousands of teenagers in all fifty states have reported vape-related lung disorders such as popcorn lung when a vape user inhales superheated vapor and permanently scars their lungs. One doctor who recently performed a double-lung transplant on a 16-year old vape user described the patient as "having the lungs of an 80-year old lifetime cigarette smoker" in spite of the fact the patient only vaped and never touched a combustible cigarette.

The JAH report titled: "Young adults vape without knowing what's in their e-cigarettes" outlines the statistics that were gathered recently by questioning about 500 California high school students in grades 9-12 who had responded in the affirmative when asked whether or not they had vaped at least once in the last 30 days. Teenagers that had developed the vaping habit described their reasons for preferring the Juul brand and design over others as follows according to Medical Life Sciences News: "When asked the reason for using pods, the Number 1 reason was their small size, making it easy to hide them, as reported by 58% of users, closely followed by their weaker smell which makes it less easy to recognize compared to other types of e-cigarettes, cited by about 56% of users." Researchers are angered over what they call misleading packaging that confuses consumers as to the potency of the nicotine punch that puff of Juul delivers. "Most of the young people had no idea how much nicotine they were inhaling with each pod they used. The Juul labels at the time of the survey stated simply "5%", though now they say "5% nicotine," according to MLS News.
