Consumers Stock Up On Flavored Vape Pods Anticipating a Nationwide Ban

Vaping advocates fear that a federal ban on flavored vape pods will force some to go back to smoking cigarettes and create an expensive black market

Monday, September 23, 2019 - New York and Michigan have both issued statewide bans of sales of flavored vaping pods and now the Federal government is threatening to follow suit. "Vapers" as they like to call themselves, in other states are stocking up in anticipation of a nationwide ban that experts think is inevitable. Progressive-minded cities like San Francisco have already banned vaping entirely. Companies like industry leader Juul Inc., have been accused of targeting young adults, middle school and high school students, and enticing them to begin the vaping habit with a variety of flavors that seem that they would appeal only to young people such as "Dinner Lady Lemon Sherbet, Vapetasia Killer Kustard Apple Twist, Amazing Mango, and Aqua Sweet Cereal Milk," according to an article yesterday on CNN.com. Social media is now reporting stories of individuals that are spending hundreds of dollars "stocking up" on flavored vape pods in anticipation of a nationwide ban. Some are reporting buying as much as a 6-month supply online. Others expect the price of flavored e-cigarette cartridges to skyrocket once the supply is cut off and are speculating to make money on the black market. Juul vape pen attorneys have vast experience representing American families and people harmed by recalled products and offer a free consultation.

Vaping advocates are furious and feel that Washington, DC's targeting of a vaping ban is overboard and unnecessary. Hundreds of thousands of people using Vape pens have not become ill and rely on vaping to keep them from smoking cigarettes. Many prefer vaping to the nicotine patch and nicotine gum that they say never worked for them. According to CNN, Gregory Conley, president of the American Vaping Association, a nonprofit advocacy group is advocating that nicotine-addicted individuals break the law and stockpile flavored vaping cartridges if the alternative for them is to return to or start smoking cigarettes. "It's a moral imperative to disobey unethical laws and they're going to fight and not relapse back to smoking," Conley said to CNN. "These are the type of hardcore former smokers who if they can't access nicotine in a way that they enjoy, they are heavily at risk of going back to smoking."

The flavored E-cigarettes ban is the government's response to medical reports of nearly one thousand cases of pulmonary distress and at least seven deaths attributed to vaping. The Center for Disease Control and the American Lung Association have warned that vaping is not safe, should not be done by minors or pregnant women, and can cause permanent lung disease. There have been reports of "Popcorn Lung" amongst vapers. Popcorn lung is a condition where the super-heated vapor is inhaled, immediately burning and permanently scarring the smallest of lung tissues called alveoli. When the alveoli are scarred they lose elasticity which prevents normal inhaling and exhaling. CNN has quantified the current status of the number of e-cigarettes adverse health reports "As of September 19, (2019), there have been 530 cases of lung injury from vaping reported from 38 states and 1 US territory. Vaping has accounted for seven deaths in six states, according to the CDC. In comparison, cigarette smoking will account for roughly 480,000 deaths this year in the US, the CDC added."
